PreShow What We Know:

Skip this section if you have already read the "PreShow What We Know"

*********************************************************************************

2) The Rogues are being formed - Clearly after seeing the promo...and the title of the episode "Revenge of the Rogues" we know that Barry's gallery of villains are getting acquainted with each other.

*********************************************************************************

3) Barry is faster than ever (or getting there) - We now know that episode 15 of this season will see Barry accidentally travel time...this would suggest he is going exponentially faster...or he is using the cosmic treadmill.

*********************************************************************************

4) New suit??? - In the promo for the second half of the season we hear Barry say to Cisco "what can you do to the suit" that could imply minor changes or major changes to come to the suit by seasons end....either way the producers have confirmed a shift to the more traditional suit (especially in terms of color) soon.

Tonight's Episode:

1) Another acronym - One of the promo's for this episode showed us that the codename Ronnie/Stein have given themselves "Firestorm" is actually "F.I.R.E.S.T.O.R.M" much like Arrow now has "A.T.O.M." rather than just have the character named "The Atom".

2) Jason Rusch - Stemming from the same promo we learn that the "F.I.R.E.S.T.O.R.M" thesis is co-written by Jason Rusch. In the comics, Jason takes over the Firestorm matrix after Ronnie Raymond's death. After Ronnie's death...The "essence" of Firestorm found its way to a young man named Jason Rusch, and imbued him with powers very similar to the original. However, in order to become Firestorm, Rusch needed another person to complete the matrix. Unlike previous incarnations, this was not a fixed set of people. It was Rusch and whomever happened to be nearby.

Ronnie and Jason currently ONE Firestorm unit...minus Prof. Stein

This was usually a surprise for the other person, which made controlling Firestorm more difficult. There were risks, however. If Jason over-exerted himself, the person he merged with could fade away and die. Also, if he merged with someone strong enough, it was possible for that other person to take over Firestorm and bend it to their will.

At one point, the mind of Ronnie Raymond reappeared in the Firestorm matrix, but didn't last very long. Raymond vanished again, perhaps never to return.

During the Infinite Crisis, Firestorm was part of the team that went into space to close the rift opened by Alexander Luthor. Rusch's companion in the matrix, his friend Mickey, died during the fighting, and Firestorm was saved by the reappearance of the elemental Firestorm, Martin Stein. Stein offered to help him, and Rusch talked Stein into rejoining the Firestorm matrix. They returned to Earth, though not unscathed, and eventually resumed work as a hero.

In the events of 52, Firestorm, with Firehawk, tried to lead a new Justice League, but that proved to be a failure when the new League was decimated by Skeets, the robot companion of the late Booster Gold.

With knowledge of a quarter of the Life Equation hidden in the Firestorm Matrix, Firestorm and Shilo Norman are attacked simultaneously by the New God Orion(who wanted to keep Martin Stein safe), and the Female Furies and Kalibak of Apokolips, who carried out Darkseid's plans to secure the Matrix. Darkseid himself feared that the Life Equation would hinder his Anti-Life Equation. With the combined might of Firestorm and Shilo, Orion, Apokolips and the Female Furies were defeated. But that didn't stop Darkseid from arriving in a boom tube, and snatching the essence of Martin Stein from from the Firestorm Matrix. With sheer determination, Jason merged with his girlfriend Gehenna to become Firestorm, in order to find Martin Stein.

While searching for Martin Stein, Jason was later taken down by Lex Luthor, The Jokerand Cheetah. After his recovery, he helped the Justice League of America break free of imprisonment and joins them in battle against the Injustice League. After the battle, Firestorm is drafted into the Justice League by Batman.

During the events of Countdown, Firestorm teamed up with Una and Karate Kid to find a cure for Karate Kid's infection in Bludhaven. They were later confronted by the Atomic Knights, but they made quick work of them. Digging deeper into the underground of Bludhaven, the team stumbles upon Desaad torturing Martin Stein. While attempting to stop him, Firestorm was trapped inside of a mystical barrier, and that alone allowed Desaad to take over the Firestorm entity and relentlessly attack Karate Kid and Una with the intent to kill them. The Atomic Knights intervened just in time to separate Desaad (who then fled back to Apokolips through a Boom Tube) from the Firestorm Matrix. While Firestorm held off the Atomic Knights for another go-around, Karate Kid and the rest of the team continued into the BludhavenUnderground. Meanwhile, Brother Eye and the OMACs arrive in Bludhaven and take over the area, using Firestorm as a power source. During a battle between an OMAC and Red Robin, Firestorm is freed from Brother Eye.

The current incarnation of Firestorm is composed of Jason Rusch and Martin Stein, although not necessarily all the time. He is currently merged with his girlfriend, Gehenna.

3) Barry Allen...speed reader - Another little bit we learned from a promo is that Barry can speed read, 800 words in a little less than 20seconds, again it's nice to see the writers highlight powers other than your basic "run really fast".

4) News Flash - Both the promos and the synopsis indicated that the entirety of Central City is going to learn of the Flash's existence..which is nice to see considering that is one aspect the writers really have yet to tackle in either show; how does the media respond to these heroes. This also will give Iris the chance to become the reporter she always has been in the comics.

5) Don't worry...he isn't human torch - Many fans have complained that we have yet to see Firestorm show his true powers and that he....(just read the photo)

6) New intro - "My name is Barry Allen....I am NOT the fastest man alive"

7) Wells starts to get up -....to stop Barry from dying...because he is the Reverse Flash...EOBARD to be exact...thats why he didn't fade when Barry lost his powers...he isn't Barry...

8) "The Reverse Flash" - Wells likes the name Reverse Flash...surprise surprise

9) Captain Cold the thinker - It would seem this version of Capt. Cold is the natural born leader...his plan is set from step one, draw the Flash int the public's view.

10) The Rathaways - Apparently they purchased the photo "Fire and Ice" that Capt. Cold and Heatwave are trying to steal, they are the parents of Hartley Rathaway aka the Pied Piper, who is set to appear in one of the next few episodes.

Name: Hartley Rathaway

Codename: Pied Piper

Short Bio:
-Prior to crime he was a deaf musical prodigy

-Initially was part of the Rogues

-Eventually reformed and became a vigilante

-One of the first openly homosexual characters in DC Comics, something I defiantly think, and hope the CW does with their character, it would show a huge step in how diversification in comics can really make the jump to the real world

Powers/Abilities/Equipment:
Flute - Rathaway has crafted his own sophisticated flute capable of hypnotizing anyone within range of its sound. He can make anyone do what ever he wants of them, and can even make himself 'invisible' to other's perception. Initially this technique only worked on humans, but during his incarceration in Iron Heights, he has perfected it to work on rats as well, adding another similarity to his legendary namesake. Later, he learned to manipulate technology.

Sonic Devices - Rathaway also employs a number of devices that can generate or amplify sound for destructive purposes.

Sonic Tuning Fork - capable of sending out a sound the causes paralysis in those who hear it.

BROADWAY STAR ANDY MIENTUS GUEST STARS AS THE PIED PIPER — Dr. Wells’ (Tom Cavanagh) former protégée, Hartley Rathaway (guest star Andrew Mientus), returns to seek revenge on his mentor after being affected by the particle accelerator explosion. Now able to manipulate sound waves, the brilliant Rathaway is a dangerous threat to both Wells and The Flash (Grant Gustin). Meanwhile, Iris (Candice Patton) is thrilled when she’s hired by the Central City Picture News as their newest cub reporter. Unfortunately, her editor (guest star Tom Butler) pairs her with a veteran reporter, Mason Bridge (guest star Roger Howarth), who wants nothing to do with her. Cisco (Carlos Valdes) recalls his first day on the job at S.T.A.R. Labs when he met Hartley and Caitlin (Danielle Panabaker). Joe (Jesse L. Martin) asks Eddie (Rick Cosnett) for a favor but asks him to keep it a secret from Barry. John Showalter directed the episode written by Alison Schapker & Brooke Eikmier (#111).

11) Cisco can help the cops - Barry mentions that Cisco can help the cops stop Snart...maybe he has a hand in building these, seemingly modified, riot shields? We shall see as the episode progresses:

12) Barry's "nerd survival kit" - Not only is the bag full of comics...BUT it is also the colors of the Flash suit we are all hoping Barry's becomes!

13) Called it with the ballistic shield modification!

14) Cold's gun reaches absolute zero - Capt. Cold is the only cold based villain to reach absolute zero in the comics.

15) Firestorm research from promo see above

16) Jason Rusch from promo see above

17) Arrow Promo - Laurel's the justice you can't run from!

18) First appearance Jason Rusch! - Firestorm 2.0 and 3.0! He's working at Mercury Labs, but will he be the one that is able to separate the two...or know that they are merged? Who did Stein go to in order to get money? ... HOW did he and Ronnie become one being?

19) Wells "I hope were not enemies" - A little backstabbing allusion there aye Eobard?...Wells....Barry he ISN'T pushing you to be better...he's pushing you to be FASTER.

20) Please no Olicity 2.0 - Possibly the weakest point on Arrow right now is Olicity...I prey the writers don't make a Caitlin and Barry couple..

21) "The Scarlet Speedster" - One of the Flash's classic nicknames, akin to Batman's "The Caped Crusader"

22) "Flame vs Frost" - Possibly a vague reference to Firestorm (Ronnie Raymond) and Caitlin Snow (Killer Frost) and their elemental future.

24) We have yet to see the scene with the burned costume and there are 14 minutes left...does he get Caitlin back this episode???? NEVER MIND! Cisco's on the job!

25) Will the beams converge....ON Barry? Is that was causes the destruction of the suit?

26) Eddie going to help The Flash? The blue seems to be very reminiscent of Cobalt Blue's powers...and the red Barry's...it would also seem that Eddie Thawne is the CW's adaptation of Malcolm Thawne aka Cobalt Blue.

27) Called it with the guns converging on his suit! - I realize Cisco may have more suits...and this suit is growing on me...but I want to see the full out Flash suit!

28) Eddie on good terms with the Flash now - It would seem Eddie's hate was short-lived, although it may simply be bottled up on the inside, ready to grow into full blown hatred when he makes the change to Cobalt Blue (or if they modify Malcolm's character to be a blend between Malcolm and Hunter Zolomon, a secondary Reverse Flash)

29) Barry - "I can see into the future" .... "It'll be here faster than you think"- Possible allusion to Flash's time travel powers, which will debut, by accident in episode 15.

30) Wait...Did Iris's mom leave them? That sets up the ability for Wally West to be introduced as a step-relative...or did she die?

31) Barry's moving home!

32) Iron Height's Prison Truck - Another rogue is going to break them out...which one?... THE GOLDEN GLIDER!

33) Pied Piper next episode!

1 comment:

  1. I still think Dr. Wells is Jay Garrick. Episode 2 he supposedly gets rid of Simon Stagg (Catwoman anyone?). If Dr. Wells was Reverse Flash, he wouldn't have done that. Reverse Flash doesn't kill his allies. The theory about Reverse Flash needing the Flash to be better to make him better was disproven in the Flashpoint Paradox. Unless this a world created after the Flashpoint so that the Barry ran back to let his mom die, only for his younger self to be confused about the whole incident.

Either way, Dr. Wells is not the Reverse Flash until it happens. The Yellow Suit before Christmas only shows what it takes to drive Barry to better himself. Also, episode 8 Barry stares down Eddie and episode 9 Dr. Wells stares down Eddie. Sorry, but just not convinced.
